The British Heart foundation created a video with Vinnie Jones to instruct people on how to do hands-only CPR. It is so easy even you could do  it! Save a life!

It gets particularly worse when it comes to sustainability as the buildings become a mess of wires and conduits, as they try to ventilate and light the buildings.  As it stands if fires were to break out the windows would be too small and heavily guarded to save anyone save a small animal and someone’s leather hand bag.

Where these ideas and horrible concepts of design come from?  We design with small windows because of hurricanes? We design with burglar bars because of thieves? Really?  At the end of the day we  end up keeping our selves in a palace dungeon.

The next thing that would be said is its “too costly.” Consider this, the high electricity bill for lights and air-conditioning may (over time) cost you more than just taking time to explore some additional design features.

In actuality the blame should be put on two parties – the architects and the clients.  More so the clients for not dreaming big about their “Dream Homes.” Then the architects for not being able to dream period – nowadays the most creative design is being found in rendering something that looks like a letter of the alphabet in plan view.

Not that there are not good architects in Antigua and Barbuda, but you have to look really hard to see an impressive and sustainable form stand out amongst the crowd of buildings. Whether it was a lack of creative effort that has caused all this or deliberate stifling – who knows?

To round off this rambling below are two videos to inspire the generation of young architects seeking to “buss on the scene.”  The first one is a short piece about designing from organic form – on paper no doubt! Go sketchbook and pencil! The other is from architect Bjarke Ingels.  Have fun!

In this section the students were each given a small toy and asked to create a poster advertisement for an imaginary toy company called A Bit-O-Toys. They had free reign over the intended use of the toy, and content of poster.  The only major governing factor was that there had to be a picture of the toy and the company logo included in the design.

The designs are all based around the students’ likes, wherein they were to create 3 pieces based on their favourite colour, favourite hobby and their favoirte music genre. The pieces were rendered in any combination of collage, photo-edit or typographic piece.  Meaning that if their favourite hobby was done as a photo-edit, their favorite color cold only be a collage or typographic piece.
